If given the option to purchase a childlike sex doll or sex robot, will pedophiles be able to satisfy their urges and not act upon human children?
Pedophilia is a very unpleasant topic for most people, and evokes some strong emotions which makes calm objective discourse somewhat difficult. But there is a problem here and real children are at risk of becoming victims. We should explore every option available to us in order to keep our children safe, and child sex robots are one such option.
Below I’ve summarized the cases for and against child sex robots as a cure for pedophilia.
In support of child sex robots for pedophiles
There have been many studies conducted on pedophilia and methods of suppression or curing it entirely. The origins may be genetic, may be hormonal, or maybe we’re all pedophiles to certain degrees just some people’s dials are turned up. The one thing that we are sure of is that given a certain sample of population it is likely the at least a small percentage will be cursed with sexual feelings towards children. It is almost inevitable that any society will have pedophiles, whether they act upon their urges or not is the question.
On the study of helping pedophiles curb their sexual feelings it has been shown in various studies that giving pedophiles an outlet or a channel to relieve their urges will reduce the chance that they will act upon them with a real child.
The executive director of the Sexpo Foundation in Finland states the following in favor of child sex robots and sex dolls:
“Both Sexpo services and international studies have shown that the risk of a sexual offense against a child can be reduced by providing a pedophile with a channel for their desires.
Sex dolls are one such channel.
A person who uses a lot of money and effort to purchase the doll has already made the decision that he wants to carry out the sexual tendency.
Therefore, it is important that the customs authorities or others concerned about the sex dolls actors do not hamper their availability.”
So in theory, pedophile can be cured by allowing pedophiles to satisfy their urges on a robot or doll rather than a real child. The pedophiles will be sated, the children safe, and the doll or robot will suffer some minor physical wear and tear but will not need to see a therapist for the rest of their lives.
Against child sex robots for pedophiles
The opposite side of the coin is the idea that child sex robots and sex dolls are just a stepping stone that will lead to committing abuses against children in the future.
What if instead of satisfying the urges the child sex robots just further excite the pedophile and get him/her even more curious about sexual acts with a human child? How can we be sure that allowing pedophiles to own sex robots will cure their urges rather than as a gateway to real abuse.
This is a real fear for the Norwegian customs organization who have been seizing child sex dolls being imported into their country. In the latter half of 2016, more than 20 child sex dolls have been confiscated by the Norway border control.
Norwegian police have explicitly stated that they are doing this because they fear that the purchasers “may pose a risk of committing abuses against children in the future.”
Now whether this fear is based in fact and science is up for debate, but when if come to child abuse some questions are best left to hypothetical theory rather than seeing how it plays out in reality.
